Mahler: Symphonie No. 4 - Juliane Banse / The Cleveland Orchestra / Pierre Boulez by Gustav Mahler, Pierre Boulez, The Cleveland Orchestra, and Juliane Banse

I have this version. Everything seems to be alright but I just couldn't get moved by this version. Boulez might be a little too precise and cold for me.

ahler: Symphony No4; Berg: Early Songs by Alban Berg, Gustav Mahler, Riccardo Chailly, Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, and Barbara Bonney

I really like this version. Chailly was very loyal to the score and the recorded sound was great, too. The little surprise for me are the songs by Berg. I thought I wouldn't like these early 20th Century songs. They turned out to be quite charming works to me.

Mahler: Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler, John Barbirolli, and New Philharmonia Orchestra

One of the long time favorite version. A very different interpretation from, say, Karajan or Chailly. Well, I like all these different versions for different reasons. That's why classical music is great for me. I can indulge myself enjoying different views of the same work without worrying about the "correctness" of the interpretation or not.

Mahler: Symphony No.5 by Gustav Mahler and Riccardo Chailly

I just love this version. Listen to the french horn in the 3rd movement. So romantic.

Mahler: Symphony No. 7 / Song of the Night by Gustav Mahler, Yoel Levi, and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

Probably the least popular work among Mahler's symphonies. It's really a pity. I personally like this work for all the weird sounds Mahler managed to conjured up with his genius in orchestration skills.
I like this version for the clear sound so I can easily follow the music with the score in hands.

Mahler: Symphony No. 7 by Leonard Bernstein with NYPO

I couldn't enjoy no. 7 until I heard this version. I was driving alone from DC to NYC (a 4 hours drive) and I had this one on. That was the first time I thought I know what Mahler was trying to communicate through this work. I love this version.

Mahler: Symphonie No. 6; Kindertotenlieder by Thomas Hampson, Gustav Mahler, Leonard Bernstein, and Vienna Philharmonic

A very famous version. The last movement can only be described as violent. It really break your heart when the work finished (as the final nail punched on the coffin).

Chopin: 24 Preludes by Frederic Chopin and Grigory Sokolov

Again, not a name that most people will recognize. However, this live concert recording is one of my favorite version of Chopin preludes.

Bach: Die Kunst der Fuge by Johann Sebastian Bach and Grigory Sokolov

Bach wrote Die Kunst der Fuge (The Art of Fuge) with no clear specification of what instrument to play with. I have the versions for string quartets, string ensembles, pianos, etc. This version is by far the best version for me. This is the kind of interpretation that, for me, strikes as the "only" version I need.

Bach: Bauern, Kaffee & Hochzeitkantate / Collegium Aureum

    貌似嚴肅的巴哈也有風趣的一面。聽聽這幾首世俗清唱劇。Elli Ameling是我個人很喜歡的女高音。如果你不喜歡歌劇,這個清唱劇也許會讓您慢慢喜歡喔!
