94 Grange

My friends said 94 Grange is worth AUD800 now. I said "Who cares! Drink first!". I paid $AUD200 in 1996.
There are many reds here that are well inder AUD100. Is the Grange 94 that many times better? I really doubted it. But for the sake of the name, I have to try.
Like many matured shiraz, it is well bodied, smooth and full to the palate. When I first cracked it, the aroma was fantastic. It's hard to describe the smell. It's fruity, sweet, oaky and yet light an refreshing. Drinking it is another experience. It is intensely complex. I can detect blue berries or cherries and other ingredients that I couldn't tell. May be peppers and salt?? The flavour lingers at the back of the throat for a long time after I swallowed it. Very nice wine, of course.
