Pianist Eddie Higgins may not be a household name in the US, but he is undoubtedly the most popular and most prolific musician in the roster of the Japanese independent label Venus Records. His latest is a pair of solo piano albums, a collection of standards requested by the readers of Swing Journal, the premier Japanese jazz magazine. A list of Top 40 requests was presented to Higgins, and the original intention was to record material for just one album. But after completing 15 tracks on the first day, which in itself is remarkable, Higgins wanted to keep going. So, an additional recording took place the following day, and he recorded another 15 tracks.
