Mahler: Symphonies Nos. 2 & 4 by Gustav Mahler, Maurice de Abravanel, Utah Symphony Orchestra, Beverly Sills, and Netania Davrath

One of my favorite versions of symphony no. 4. Davrath delivered a very different view of Mvt. 4, the sound was earthy. Quite unlike Kathleen Battle on Lorin Maazel's version on Decca. Battle delivered an almost angelic voice that I felt like being lifted to the heaven.

The recorded sound was very natural. One of the best, in my humble opinion.

Mahler: Symphony No. 2, C Minor "Resurrection" / Litton, Murphy, Lang by et al Gustav Mahler (Composer), Dallas Symphony Chorus, Gustav Mahler, Andrew Litton, and Dallas Symphony Orchestra

Probably not a version that a lot of music lover would care. However, the recorded sound was simply amazing. I happened to like the interpretation, too. Might be too romantic to some. But, hey, why do I care if I like it.

Mahler: Symphony No.2 'resurrection' by Tennstedt, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Gustav Mahler, and Klaus Tennstedt

My second CD(s) that I've ever bought (1986). I still like this version. Very clean. Very straightforward. Probably not the best version for me anymore but this one sure has a special place i n my heart. Yes, my version was made in Japan. Bought from 普洛音響。當劉大鬍子還在羅斯福路的小小店面賣唱片。他那時賣Linn 和Music Fidelity.還記的他賣的Linn Kann 和 MF A1. 哇!好久了!

Mahler: Symphony No.3 by Gustav Mahler, Claudio Abbado, Vienna Boys' Choir, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and Wiener Sängerknaben

My first exposure to Mahler no. 3. Just bought them recently here when I saw them in a local seller's place. I like this version a lot. A straightforward version.

Mahler: Symphony No. 2 in C minor, The Resurrection / Gielen, SWR Sinfonieorchester by Arnold Schoenberg, Michael Gielen, SWR Sinfonieorchester, and Gyorgy Kurtag

Now, this is a version that's even further from the usual trodden path. This is one of my favorite versions of no. 2. It may not strictly stick to the original score. But, it delivers a very "raw" sound that presents this work in a whole different aspect.

Mahler: Symphony No. 3 by Gustav Mahler, Jesús López-Cobos, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Michelle DeYoung

This version is probably not well praised by the music critics. But, I like this version for the great sound (to me) and an interpretation that is not too fussy. To me, this is a fairly under-rated version.

Mahler: Symphony No. 3 In D Minor - Horenstein by Gustav Mahler, Jascha Horenstein, John McCarthy, Russell Burgess, and Ambrosian Singers

My first version of no. 3. I had it on LPs but left them in Taiwan when I came to US. Conducted by great Horenstein, some people hate it and some like it. I like this version for its different view of this work.

Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 6 in a minor by Gustav Mahler, Michael Gielen, Freiburg, and SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden

Gielen is not a well-known conductor for most people. This is really unfortunate. His no. 6 is one of my favorite for its raw power. It made me feel the anger that Mahler felt.

Mahler: Symphony No. 4 by Gustav Mahler, Lorin Maazel, Salzburg Vienna Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmonisches Kammerensemble, and Kathleen Battle

One of my favorite versions. I like the angelic sound Battle delivered. I was like being lifted to heaven. So romantic.....

Mahler: Symphony No. 4; Songs of a Wayfarer by Gustav Mahler, Yoel Levi, Frederica Von Stade, and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

von Stade had another version with Abbado on DG. I like both versions. Some may consider this version plain. I like the straightforward sound and the simple approach to the interpretation.
