Working the weekends to satisfy the intense demand for our G3 GIYA can be hard. Lucky we have a pair of G1 GIYA's available for some motivational music - keeping the factory pumping with some pumping tunes!

We are doing some power handling tests on the D50 driver - a routine test to make sure that the driver is to spec. Basically we drive it to destruction while monitoring it thermally and timing it. The source is pink noise generated by the small black box on the left. This is amplified by the VTL preamplifier before being fed into the 1kW amplifier on the right. This then goes through a filter that feeds the D50 an unattenuated signal from 800Hz to 3kHz.

The D50 is playing continuously at full power - unlike in music, with pink noise there is no rest time for the driver so it really is an extreme test of durability. After 20 minutes the dome of the tweeter was measuring 55 degrees C and the steelwork was over 100, and still she carried on! Everyone in our test area had to wear 20dB attenuating earplugs and I put a big muffler over the thing because it was so loud!
