We recreated the iconic cover from Donald Fagen's groundbreaking The Nightfly LP here at the studio as an homage to the ever-enduring turntable. We have several pressings of The Nightfly, including the original Mobile Fidelity reissue, and they all sound different! Stop by for a listen and compare them all on a Redpoint turntable!
Released in 1982, The Nightfly was one of the first pop projects recorded entirely in the digital domain. Largely autobiographical, the liner notes contained a message that read Note: The songs on this album represent certain fantasies that might have been entertained by a young man growing up in the remote suburbs of a northeastern city during the late fifties and early sixties, i.e., one of my general height, weight and build. - D.F. Nominated for several Grammy Awards in 1983, the Wall Street Journal declared it "one of pop music's sneakiest masterpieces". We agree

Moving Magnet (動磁) vs Moving Coil (動圈) vs Moving Iron (動鐵)
三者選那個好？各有優缺點，只要是設計良好，適當的搭配都能有好的聲音，MMC一般來說比MCC簡單與便宜，且只要一台唱頭放大就行，但一般會覺得MMC循軌力道較大，除了會影響聲音外，對唱片也比較會磨損。MIC則解決了循軌力道的問題，因為鐵比磁鐵輕許多，也有許多人認為MIC比MMC的聲音較好。MCC則是在唱放前還需要一臺擴大機，這會增加成本與安裝的複雜度，但MCC也因此相對MMC, MIC減少了循軌力道。
Moving Magnet & Moving Iron
In a stereo moving-magnet cartridge (MMC), a miniscule permanent magnet rests on the end of the stylus cantilever suspended between two coils—one for the left and one for the right audio channels. As the name suggests, the magnet moves (vibrates) between the two coils and, in so doing, induces a small current in them. Since the magnet is extremely small it weighs very little, requiring a lower downward (tracking) force to accurately travel the record grooves.

The only marked difference between an MMC and a moving-iron cartridge (MIC) is a tiny piece of iron or other light, ferrous alloy that replaces the magnet on the end of the cantilever. In this case, the iron is lighter than the magnet, further reducing tracking force while boosting tracking accuracy

Moving Coil
A moving-coil cartridge (MCC) uses an inverted moving magnet design. The coils attach to the stylus cantilever, and the permanent magnet resides near the coils. Since space is beyond extremely limited, the coils are tiny, using extremely fine wire. This limitation on coil size results in an extremely low output, i.e., in the microvolt range.

With an output of around 100 µV to 300 µV, MCCs are very susceptible to noise and hum. In addition to an RIAA preamp, these cartridges require an additional amplifier stage or step-up transformer prior to the RIAA frequency-compensating preamp. There are, however, high-output MCCs on the market capable of delivering output levels comparable to MMCs.

Jane的Lady就不用介紹了，搖滾樂迷必買。Renaissance的第一張專輯（右上）還不錯，不過我覺的Ann Haslem還是比較好。中下的Block的管弦曲“美國”相當有趣，很值得一聽（錄音不錯喔！）。
右下的那張是現代音樂，錄音絕對是發燒級的（Nonesuch的唱片錄音基本上都不差），音樂好不好聽就看人囉！

右邊的是Rossington Collins Band的第一張專輯，個人感覺比第二張好聽。喜歡南方搖滾的，必買。
左邊那張不管是錄音（Bob Ludwig後製）或是音樂本身，都很值得一聽。很明顯的，這兩位作曲家（Weil 和米堯）都受到那時侯流行的爵士樂的影響。
PS：Nonesuch的唱片錄音都有一定的水準，只要對現代音樂（或是前衛音樂）不排斥，很值得收集。
