 Constellation audio 工程師 Peter Madnick 來訪
從去年CES首次登場就造成轟動的Constellation Audio，這兩年來在國際上迅速的竄起，原因就在其擁有最堅強的設計團隊，設計出最高水準的產品，不過價格對一般人來說，也是屬於High End等級，這次Constellation Audio的Peter來訪，就是要告訴大家好消息，除了先前發表最頂級的參考級系列(Reference)外，現在推出了價格更容易讓人親近的Performance系列。Performance系列首度發表於今年的慕尼黑音響展上，搭配訂價高達的USD 322,000的Tidal T1喇叭，現場整套的Performance系列包括Virgo前級、3台Centaur立體聲後級分別驅動Tidal T1的高、中、低音，訊源則是Cygnus 數位檔案播放器/DAC、還有搭配Continuum Audio Labs黑膠唱盤的Perseus唱頭放大前級。Peter表示，Performance系列完全採用跟參考級系列的相同的線路設計，兩個系列的主要差異在於參考級系列的元件是不計成本選用最高等級的，而Performance系列則是有考量成本下的選擇，當Peter跟我說明在參考級上的一顆電阻可能就要USD 8元時，我差點沒從椅子上摔下來，Peter說，我們都知道在High End音響中，如果聲音表現要再更好、更上一層，所要花的錢往往是成倍數的，這也是參考級系列代價要如此高的原因，追求絕對的完美，而相對來說，新的Performance聲音其實也已經非常好了，雖然可能只有參考級1/2 ~ 1/3的價格左右，但是聲音已經有參考級很大比例的聲音表現，且大部份Performance系列所有的功能幾乎都跟參考級一樣，看來若無法攻頂的朋友，Performance系列將是C/P值很好的選擇。

Cygnus Digital file player / DAC (數位檔案播放/DAC)
為什麼這台叫數位檔案而不跟參考級的Sirius一樣叫HD digital music source? 我特別問了Peter，Peter表示Cygnus沒有SACD/CD，所以單純只能撥放檔案或當DAC用，Sirius則可以讀SACD/CD片，此外Constellation Audio的訊源不做Streaming串流，這是Peter的堅持，因為Peter認為只要跟PC or Mac電腦相連，就會受到電腦的干擾，再怎麼處理也沒用，因此在後方的USB口，是直接讀取USB硬碟或隨身碟的音樂檔，而非跟電腦相連的USB DAC，當然為了最高音質，其只支援無損的WAV或是FLAC檔！

CONCLUSION
Frankly, it’s hard to know where to begin in praising the Altair and Hercules. They set a new standard in my experience not just in one or two areas, but in virtually every sonic and musical criterion. It’s an easy call to say that the Altair and Hercules are the most transparent, detailed, and cleanest electronics I’ve heard. They come closer than any linestage and power amplifier I’ve heard to being completely colorless. The Altair and Hercules sound like whatever source you feed them and whatever loudspeakers you drive. But beyond these specifics, listening to music through these electronics was revelatory.
In addition to this unparalleled musical performance, the Constellation electronics break new ground in features and system control. The Pyxis controller is simply a joy to use. Moreover, the open architecture allows your system to expand, with the new components integrating seamlessly with Pyxis. Yes, these electronics are shockingly expensive, but I’m thrilled that someone funded the unprecedented development effort and then realized the products with this level of execution. It has shown me what’s possible in solid-state design today and established a benchmark against which all other linestages and power amplifiers can be compared.
