DAC1 has a true preamplifier section with 1 x XLR and 2 x RCA analog inputs.
The DAC signal is also proceeded by the preamplfier section. So all signals are available at the analog output of the preamplifier section.

The B.M.C. DAC1 preamp section can be configured for 2 different operation modes:
1. Normal preamplifier with a precision volume control. This is compatible to any other brand's power amplifier or active speaker.
2. B.M.C. mode for combining with B.M.C. amplifier only. This uses the lossless DIGM volume control plus the "Current Injection" mode for the amplifier. This mode not compatible with other brand's components.
The different modes can be easily set by some jumpers. The description is inside the manual.

Regardless of the preamplifier output, there is also the direct DAC output with fixed level, for digital sources only.
Both can be used together if wanted.
E.g.: Preamp out to poweramp, fixed DAC out to an external headphone amp.

Hopefully this helps clarifying your question!
