Second Studio Album On Vinyl LP! Features Single "Orinoco Flow!:

The second studio album from the Irish musician Enya was originally released in the UK in September 1988 and in the U.S in January 1989. Watermark displays her distinct sound of layered vocals, keyboard sounds, and elements of Celtic music. The album produced four singles including the first "Orinoco Flow' which became a worldwide success reaching No. 1 in the UK.

"Thanks to its distinct, downright catchy single 'Orinoco Flow,' which amusingly referenced both her record-company boss Rob Dickins and co-producer Ross Cullum in the lyrics, Enya's second album Watermark established her as the unexpected queen of gentle, Celtic-tinged new age music. To be sure, her success was as much due to marketing a niche audience in later years equally in love with Yanni and Michael Flatley's Irish dancing, but Enya's rarely given a sense of pandering in her work. She does what she does, just as she did before her fame. (Admittedly, avoiding overblown concerts run constantly on PBS hasn't hurt.) Indeed, the subtlety that characterizes her work at her best dominates Watermark, with the lovely title track, her multi-tracked voice gently swooping among the lead piano, and strings like a softly haunting ghost, as fine an example as any. 'Orinoco Flow' itself, for all its implicit dramatics, gently charges instead of piling things on, while the organ-led 'On Your Shore' feels like a hushed church piece. Elsewhere, meanwhile, Enya lets in a darkness not overly present on The Celts, resulting in work even more appropriate for a moody soundtrack than that album. 'Cursum Perficio,' with her steady chanting-via-overdub of the title phrase, gets more sweeping and passionate as the song progresses, matched in slightly calmer results with the equally compelling 'The Longships.' 'Storms in Africa,' meanwhile, uses drums from Chris Hughes to add to the understated, evocative fire of the song, which certainly lives up to its name. Watermark ends with a fascinating piece, 'Na Laetha Geal M'Oige,' where fellow Irish modern/traditional fusion artist Davy Spillane adds a gripping, heartbreaking uilleann pipe solo to the otherwise calm synth-based performance. Eighth Studio Album On Import 180g LP!

The eighth studio album from Enya was released originally November 2015. The album was inspired by the island of Sark (in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy, France) which has been recently designated as a dark-sky preserve (which means it is kept free of artificial light pollution). Enya partnered with arranger/producer Nicky Ryan and his wife Roma Ryan whose poems on islands were also an inspiration for the album.

The album peaked at number 4 in the U.K. and number 8 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S.

"Since the late '80s, Irish singer/composer Enya has become the most unlikely of international stars, delivering lush, Celtic-driven pseudo-classical odes in her signature Wall of Sound vocal style, rarely granting interviews, never touring, and generally taking as much time as she wishes between albums. Bucking odds and industry trends, her popularity has remained steadfast, allowing her to become the best-selling Irish solo artist of all time. Following 2008's snowbound And Winter Came, her silence stretched to eight years -- the longest of her career -- before the mists once again parted to reveal her eighth album, the evocatively titled Dark Sky Island. Named for Sark, the smallest of Britain's Channel Islands and first in the world receive the Dark Sky designation for its lack of light pollution, it has all the thematic and sonic hallmarks typical of an Enya release but with significantly more highlights than on her two prior works. Since the release of her 1986 debut, changes in her overall approach have been subtle and critics have often derided her for her unwavering dedication to dated, late-'80s synth patches and her reliance on formulaic methods, but Enya's consistency is actually one of her greatest assets. Her low public profile -- especially in the age of social media -- demands that her music remains the sole focus, and even if she and collaborators Roma and Nicky Ryan choose to keep working within their unique, self-designed milieu, it's one that they own completely and have nurtured over the years. Opening track 'The Humming,' with its eerie staccato swing and mystical musings on the cycles of the universe, is one of the strongest tracks she's produced in decades and resembles a dark cousin to 1991's masterwork 'Caribbean Blue.' Inspired lead single 'Echoes In Rain' also harkens back to her Shepherd Moons heyday and features some fine, cascading piano work amid the pulsing strings and exalted vocal layers. Dark Sky Island also marks the return of Loxian, a language lyricist Roma Ryan first created for Enya on 2005's Amarantine and which is used here on the lavish march 'The Forge of Angels' and the powerful 'The Loxian Gate,' which again echoes early Watermark-era standouts like 'Storms in Africa' and 'The Longships.' While it would be unfair to call Dark Sky Island a throwback, it does manage to harness some of the power and creativity of Enya's early days and pairs it with both the confidence and shadows of age.
