Excel Hi Fi in Hong Kong have ordered a pair of G3's in this rather fetching colour - Silverlake. A pearlescent sky-blue with a strong pink undertone, it is quite spectacular! The G3 is in our spray booth, photographed before the clear lacquer is applied. Again you can see how the inspection team (3 eagle-eyed men), have marked all the non-perfect spots with masking tape... Perfection is a laborious process when painting composites.

I also found a couple of shots of Vivid systems, mostely from shows that I thought you might like to see. I'm 90% sure they are new to you, let me know if I'm re-posting!!!

Vivid Audio Switzerland have officially opened their showrooms. Thank you to Robert Trunz for sending in this frankly awesome shot of the G2 Giyas on demonstration. Excellent!

The main display was allocated to the G1's however, with Gryphon supplying the amplification et al. Thank you very much to Radim at RP Audio for putting on a great demonstration, and supplying the photos!
Here's an image of the CAD model used to design the packaging. Every nut and bolt (and washer) is modeled so that we can be 100% certain that everything will go together as planned.

The G3 packed in its non-scratch bag. The accessories (spikes, jumpers, grilles and so on), are boxed and placed in the gaps you can see. Cramming everything that needs to be in the crate while ensuring the safety of the speaker was a task in itself!

This is the completed CNC cut lower packaging for a G3. The white ring at the bottom is there to support the C135 bass driver. This is necessary as the drivers are not rigidly attached to the cabinet, but are fastened only to each-other and literally float on silicone decoupling O-rings within the cabinet. Without propor support they can shift (as a pair) relative to the cabinet as it is bumped and knocked during international shipping.

And here are two G3's with their biggest brother - G1.
Here are a couple of part-completed G2 crossovers. We use point to point soldering rather than PC boards - we did loads of blind A-B testing with PC boards and point to point XO's and we decided that the extra hassle of the point to point method was worth the sonic gain, even though it's tough to explain exactly why they sound better...
Here is an image of our D26 high frequency driver mounted in a flat baffle. The white plastic baffle fits flush into our testing chamber creating a baffle that is flat for about 1.2meters squared.

Now, mounting the tweeter 8mm back in a small recess (as is often practiced, for time alignment) as shown...

The size of the recess makes a difference too. The reflections caused by the recess walls will affect different frequencies from the driver. To illustrate this, I increased the diameter of the recess in the baffle, but kept the depth the same:

While massive demand for G3 and B1 continues, we're looking at an all new production method for the cabinet of G2. Our pattern master, Vika Zwane, is seen here preparing the experimental G2 cabinet pattern. The benefit of this new manufacturing technique will be a lighter, stronger cabinet that pushes it's resonant frequency further and further out of band.
http://www.my-hiend.com/vbb/attachme...3&d=1337096404
And while Vika prepares the new tooling, we are also having a good look at the performance of the lower midrange driver absorber tube for the Giya. The experiment below investigates the effectiveness of the decoupling method of the driver to cabinet.
Working the weekends to satisfy the intense demand for our G3 GIYA can be hard. Lucky we have a pair of G1 GIYA's available for some motivational music - keeping the factory pumping with some pumping tunes!http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...07582637_n.jpg
We are doing some power handling tests on the D50 driver - a routine test to make sure that the driver is to spec. Basically we drive it to destruction while monitoring it thermally and timing it. The source is pink noise generated by the small black box on the left. This is amplified by the VTL preamplifier before being fed into the 1kW amplifier on the right. This then goes through a filter that feeds the D50 an unattenuated signal from 800Hz to 3kHz.
http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...49421558_n.jpg
The D50 is playing continuously at full power - unlike in music, with pink noise there is no rest time for the driver so it really is an extreme test of durability. After 20 minutes the dome of the tweeter was measuring 55 degrees C and the steelwork was over 100, and still she carried on! Everyone in our test area had to wear 20dB attenuating earplugs and I put a big muffler over the thing because it was so loud!
